Hello Planner friends! I’m so excited to start sharing all of my planner joy with you all. For this first post, I wanted to share with you all my planner journey. Where I started, and where I’m at! I have always loved using paper planners. Writing things down helps me remember things! In my adult life I had gone through different paper planners that I had found at Walmart. Then, in February of 2019, I was standing in the planner aisle at Walmart staring at the most beautiful planner I had EVER seen. It was a Happy Planner. I had never seen one before, and I was fascinated. The colors, the quotes, the the discs with little hearts in them, I loved EVERYTHING. I remember telling my husband how badly I wanted it, and hugging the planner all the way out to the car. Now, I had never even thought about decorative planning. I don’t know why! I’ve always been very creative and artistic, and decorating a planner would’ve been totally up my alley, but I didn’t even know. I used my Happy Planner, which was an undated vertical layout, completely functionally. I kept track of spending and appointments with just a pen. It was a few months later when I started following the Happy Planner Instagram page. I was amazed at all of the gorgeous spreads and colors that people put in their planners every week! It inspired me to try something new, so I pulled out my colored pencils and started creating fun colored spreads all on my own. One day, as I was perusing my local Dollar Tree, I found some simple Planner stickers, and washi tape. Remembering some of the instagram posts I now followed, I decided to buy them, and try them out. I loved it! It was such a quick way to bring fun into my planner. This was around the time that I started a planner dedicated Instagram page. (@plansbymelisa) and this really pushed me to be more creative and to make my planner the best it could be for me. I got my first Happy Planner stickers for my birthday on August 30th. I was nervous and unsure of how to use them, but I tried my best. Soon I started settling into my style. I knew what worked for me functionally, and what made me happy. I also was able to start practicing my lettering too. I feel a LOT more confident in my planning style now, and I know what works for me. As 2020 rolled around, I was excited to try a new layout, which was lined vertical. I have LOVED this layout, and how creative it enables me to be. I’m constantly having to think outside the box! I have 4 planners that I’m using for 2020. (I’ll go into those planners and their purposes in another post.) And I've been enjoying adding some extra pages to my planner to be creative and keep more aspects of my life in check. How did you find your way into the planner world?
